Legendary former AC Milan midfielder Demetrio Albertini believes that the project at Inter Milan stretches back further than this season.

Speaking at the Masterelli Memorial, via FCInterNews, Albertini praised the Nerazzurri for the work that has culminated in winning the Serie A title this season.

This campaign, Inter have gotten their hands on a trophy that has eluded them for a few years now.

The Nerazzurri won the Serie A title. They did so for the first time since the 2020-21 campaign.

This was a big title win for Inter for a number of reasons.

For one thing, it meant that they could put the second star on their chests, as it was title number twenty.

Moreover, Inter clinched the title by beating city rivals AC Milan in the derby.

This is not something that either the Nerazzurri or the Rossoneri had ever done in history.

And it was also the first ever Serie A title for Inter coach Simone Inzaghi. Either in charge of the Nerazzurri, or previously, Lazio.

Demetrio Albertini: “Great Inter Milan Project – Not Just This Season”

Inter and Inzaghi had previously come painfully close to winning the title once before.

The Nerazzurri had at one point had a fairly sizable advantage in the table in the spring during the 2021-22 season. That seemed to make them the clear favourites to retain their title.

But then a bad slump in form followed.

This allowed Inter’s city rivals Milan a way back into the title race. And the Rossoneri showed greater ruthlessness than Inter had, taking full advantage.

Milan won the title that season, by just two points and on the last day of the campaign.

Then, last season was an erratic, at times downright miserable one from Inter in the league. But it did see the Nerazzurri win the Coppa Italia and reach the Champions League final.

This campaign, Inter have finally put it all together in the league. But that’s not something that came out of nowhere.

Legendary former Milan midfielder described Inter’s title triumph as “Honestly fully deserved.”

“Of course, they could have waited a week,” the former Rossoneri man joked. “Instead of winning it in the derby.”

“But Inter have build a philosophy and project, as a team and a club. It’s proven to have great value on the pitch for several years.”

“Not just this season,” added the Milan legend. .
