Coyotes G Connor Ingram suffered injury vs. Wild, out 7-10 days
Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

In the aftermath of wondering why Arizona Coyotes goaltender Karel Vejmelka replaced Connor Ingram during their 3-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild, the reason has come out.

Ingram made 28 saves on the 30 shots he faced from the Wild before the second intermission, but suffered an undisclosed injury that forced him to miss the remainder of the game.

According to Coyotes head coach André Tourigny, Ingram’s situation is not serious enough to warrant major concern for the rest of the season.

“He [Ingram] is not okay, but should not be long, seven to 10 days,” Tourigny said. “I don’t know, they [Coyotes medical staff] told me after the period he was going out and it will be about a week.”

The news is yet another blow to Arizona who are on a seven-game losing streak, and 2-7-1 in their last 10.

Prior to this setback, Ingram posted a 17-13-2 record, .912 save percentage and 2.76 goals-against average in 35 games this season. The Saskatoon, Canada native also racked up five shutouts.

Now that they have lost their starting goaltender for at least a week or more, Karel Vejmelka should get the majority of the starts unless something drastically changes. Vejmelka is 6-12-2 with a .900 save percentage and 3.36 GAA through 23 contests.

Not only is an injury for Ingram ideal at any point of the season, but Arizona have a difficult schedule coming up against some of the NHL’s best teams.

If he were to be out for the duration of the previously stated timeline, he would the miss upcoming games vs. the Carolina Hurricanes (30-17-5), Colorado Avalanche (33-17-4), Edmonton Oilers (31-17-1) and Toronto Maple Leafs (27-16-8).
