3 former Coyotes placed on waivers as NHL Trade Deadline looms
Brett Holmes-USA TODAY Sports

Before the NHL Trade Deadline officially closes on March 8, three former Arizona Coyotes players have been waived by their respective teams.

Sportsnet NHL insider Elliotte Friedman released a list of players who were placed on waivers, including Jordan Oesterle from the Calgary Flames and both Antti Raanta and Tony DeAngelo from the Carolina Hurricanes.

Oesterle spent three seasons (2018-21) as a Coyote and played 172 games. He scored 10 goals, racked up 34 assists, 291 hits and 151 blocks in his time in the Valley. After just 22 games in Calgary this year, Oesterle now appears on waivers.

DeAngelo was with Arizona for just his rookie season in 2016-17 where he suited up for 39 games, registered five goals and nine assists. After departing to other teams and leaving Carolina for the Philadelphia Flyers last season, he returned to the Hurricanes before being mostly a healthy scratch this year. DeAngelo had three goals, seven assists and 14 blocks through 27 games in his second stop in Carolina.

For Raanta, this is the second time Carolina has waived him after he was originally on Dec. 16, 2023. Though he had a 12-7-2 record, he held a .872 save percentage and a 2.99 goals-against average. While with Arizona for four seasons (2017-21), Raanta was 46-42-11, posting a .921 save percentage and a 2.57 goals-against average.

All three players can be claimed by any other franchise in the NHL or if they clear, they will be sent down to the AHL.
