Watch: First glimpse of Michael Penix Jr. at Falcons rookie minicamp

Atlanta-based reporters could not stop commentating on the new faces in the building. The Falcons may be making some questionable decisions; we won’t know that for a few years, but nobody can say they are boring.

The Cousins/Penix saga will be a national storyline leading up to the season. The party is just getting started, and controversy could quickly emerge if Penix comes out during training camp and looks capable of leading the team to wins.

Something else that could complicate things is Kirk Cousins‘ health. The veteran is coming off a torn Achilles, and there are questions about when he’ll be ready. If Penix ends up taking first team reps for most of the offseason, he’ll have an early chance to make relationships with the offense that Cousins doesn’t have.

That could lead to locker room issues; however, Raheem Morris sounded confident that Cousins will be ready for training camp, stating he is “pretty much a full go.”

That’s the ideal scenario. As much as Falcons fans are excited for the future with Michael Penix Jr, the team also paid Cousins $180 million. The hope is that he can lead the Falcons back to the postseason, maybe even win a Super Bowl, and then undergo a smooth transition to Penix, who only further elevates this offense.
