Minnesota State's Dryden McKay becomes the third goaltender to win Hobey Baker Award

Minnesota State goaltender Dryden McKay was named the 2022 Hobey Baker Award winner on Friday night at the NCAA Frozen Four event at the Encore Boston Harbor.

McKay becomes just the third goalie ever to win the Hobey Baker Award, the first since longtime NHL goaltender Ryan Miller won it at Michigan State in 2001. The only other goalie to win the award was Minnesota's Robb Stauber in 1988.

Over his four-year collegiate career, McKay has the NCAA record in shutouts with 34, a record previously held by Miller (26).

McKay has gone 38-4-0 with a .934 save percentage and a 1.27 goals-against average this season for Minnesota State, helping lead them to their first-ever Division I National Championship Game this weekend.

McKay turned away 16 shots in Minnesota State's 5-1 Frozen Four victory over Minnesota on Thursday night. On Saturday at 8 p.m. ET, they'll play the University of Denver in the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey National Championship.

McKay was selected among three finalists for college hockey player of the year honors; the finalists included McKay, Minnesota center Ben Meyers and Denver forward Bobby Brink.

This year's Big Ten Player of the Year, Meyers posted 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points at Minnesota. Brink, a second-round pick by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2019, finished with 14 goals and 43 assists for 57 points this season at Denver
