North Texas QB coach resigns amid allegations of relationship with student at previous job

One week after North Texas quarterbacks coach Tate Wallis was arrested on charges that he had an improper relationship with a student while serving as an assistant coach at a high school, Wallis resigned from his position with the Mean Green.

In a statement shared by Dave Wilson of ESPN, North Texas said:

"Tate Wallis has offered his resignation and we have accepted it."

As Wilson wrote on Sept. 3, North Texas placed Wallis on leave and declared that he would not be allowed on campus during a review of the allegations that claim he engaged in inappropriate behavior while working as offensive coordinator at Argyle High School near Denton, Texas.

Per Matt Howe of 247Sports, Wallis worked at Argyle from 2018-19 until North Texas hired him in January. Before his stint at Argyle, Wallis was an assistant at Baylor from 2009-15 under Art Briles and, later, an assistant at North Forney High School in Forney, Texas, from 2016-17.

North Texas opened its season with a 57-31 win over Houston Baptist last Saturday. The Mean Green next play SMU on Sept. 19.
