Jets waive former first-round pick Quinton Coples

The New York Jets waived 2012 first-round pick Quinton Coples on Monday.

Coples, who had been struggling to adjust to first-year head coach Todd Bowles' defensive scheme, played a mere five snaps on Sunday in the Jets' 24-17 loss to the Houston Texans. Coples had just eight tackles in 10 games this season.

The outside linebacker had a career-high 6.5 sacks last season, but the former North Carolina Tar Heel had been on the Jets' trading block for quite some time. The Jets were unable to find a suitor.

The 16th overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Coples ends his Jets career with 76 career tackles and 16.5 sacks in three-plus seasons.

The 5-5 Jets takes on the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
