My New Contest...Oden's Outlet Pass
Hey everyone im starting something new, Oden's Outlet Pass. Heres how it works, throughout the NCAA season i'll ask you guys some questions about some hot topics.
I'll let you know what i think but i want to hear from you so you have to comment. After everyones left their answers i'll choose the 3 best ones and send you a copy of College Hoops 2K8. Its a fun game and yours truly is on the cover, just leave a good comment and the games yours.
The first question is, WHO WILL BE THE MOST EXCITING PLAYER IN COLLEGE HOOPS THIS YEAR?
I think Eric Gordan because i played with him and i know he has skills. He is not a big talked about guy in the news but he is a killa on the court!
What do you all think??

Derrick Rose, I read somewhere he is a combination of dwayne wade and gary payton. Thats if he lives up to his full potential. Hes real quick, knows how to run a team, hes 6'4 and is one of the best dunkers in college. I think he will be the best NBA player out of all the players in college right now. And if he comes out next year he will be the first pick of the draft.
-
He also has a great defenseive game which could create some highlight reel plays with his overall ball handling skills this kid is going to be sick. And he palys the game the right way, which is always a plus.
-
Hey Greg. Can't wait until you're playing with Portland! I didn't know where to ask, but I though I'd ask here. First, what's your Xbox Live gamertag? I got to play some with you. :p Second, do you go out to the buses after games where they do autographs? I wanted to get your autograph, but I don't know if you go there after the games. If you would so kindly e-mail me these answers at chuckatommy@gmail.com. That would be great!
As for your contest. I think one very exciting player this year will be Oregon's guard, Tajuan Porter. Tajuan Porter did great as a Freshmen with Oregon. At only 5'6" tall, he doesn't have the ability to score low, which means he has to score from outside, which he does VERY well. Tajuan Porter is an excellent three point shooter, which I think makes him a very exciting player. Last year he shattered two prestigious Oregon three point records. Most three's in a game, in a game against Portland st. where Tajuan Porter went 10-12. And most three pointer is a season by an Oregon player and now holds the all-time Pac-10 freshman record for threes in a season with 110.
Now with Oregon's former point guard Aaron Brooks out of town, and into the NBA. Tajuan Porter should see a lot more playing time. With Tajuan Porter excellent three point game, he should definatly shape up as one of the most exciting players in college basketball this year. -
for my money, it's gotta be Ty Lawson. the chapel hill offense is high octane, and their talent level right now is arguably one of the best in the country. but it all flies through Ty. if coach Williams gets em runnin like he wants to, and if Ty is doin his thing like he should be, this team WILL be cutting down the nets in March.
i mean, the question is most exciting, right? you can't argue on the fact that UNC at full speed is about as exciting as it gets. and, as i said...
it all flies through Ty. -

You're joking... right?
-
lmfao i have no respect for as a person if u were serious. if u are serious u shouldnt be answering this blog. oden is the guy thats putting portland on the map.
-
P.S. OJ Mayo without a doubt will be the MEP this season.
-
Mark Titus, Ohio State
-He provides energy off the bench
-He led the nation in points per shot last year and looks to do so again this year
-Ohio State is undefeated in the 15 games he's appeared in to this point
-His presence makes his teammates better. Evidence: Mike Conley and Daequan Cook have not been putting up nearly as big of numbers since losing Titus as a teammate while David Lighty has increased his production.
-He's great with a mic in his face, which is key for any athlete. Evidence: http://youtube.com/watch?v=dan3Xhm4D8I -
As a diehard OSU fan, I will give you even more reasons why Mark Titus should be picked as the most exciting player:
-He brings the crowd to their feet every time he checks in.
-He is the current career free throw percentage leader in the history of the NCAA.
-He's white, making the previous points that much more impressive.
If you don't think Mark Titus is the most exciting player in not only college basketball, but all of basketball, may God have mercy on your soul. -
Derrick Rose - The next star to cover NBA2K9. And I'm not just putting this kids name out there because he was a top 3 recruit, just about every where. At 6'3", he plays like he's a 7-footer. He can score off the dribble, catch 'n shoot, and create his own shots. Not only that, he creates open looks for his teamates because he demands so much attention. Then he dishes out that dime like it's nuffin'!
-
My bad, College Hoops 2k9. [typographical error: 'NBA2k9']
-
The only thing that might not make the most exciting college player is that he is a pass first point guard so he will prob not score as much and get the attention somone like gordon might get.
-
Rose will def be the best though.
-
I'm going with Villanova's Scottie Reynolds, an underdog choice.
He's like former 'Nova guard and current Memphis Grizzlies guard Kyle Lowry but Scottie is a better shooter. He can't quite play D like Lowry, nor does he have the handle of another Grizzlies guard, Mike Conley. But he's small, fast, can shoot lights out, and bring a team back from down 10 in a hurry.
That's exciting. -
Jonny Flynn PG Syracuse- 28 pts 9 asts 5 rebs to break Melo's freshman debut record for scoring... and the next night making some sick passes to Donte Greene for slams and hitting the game-winning 3 with 5 seconds left to beat St. Joe's.
-
Greg, I am a huge fan and continue to be impressed with your interaction with us, the common people. I
think that Malik Hairston of the UO Ducks will have a breakout season. He will fill Aaron Brooks' role as leader of a very impressive Oregon team. Hairston is crazy athletic and has the skillset and mindset to get it done night after night. Probably wont be the most popular choice, but I think he will suprise some people. If you are still bored in Portland, check out Malibu Grand Prix in Wilsonville. Just dont get hurt!!! -
I think he already has been to the malibu grand prix

-
I think Derek Rose from Memphis. That kid can fly. I watched some highlights of his preseason games and he makes everyone else look like they are in slow motion. He will be the nation's freshman of the year
-
and maybe Kevin Love and Kyle Singler....gotta give some respect to the state of Oregon players
-
i'm gonna go with oj mayo. theres a ton of hype surronding him which might mess him up a little bit, but he'll settle down after a few games and get a rythem goin.
-
Greg, I think I have an unpopular choice that may surprise a lot of people. Malik Hairston of the Oregon Ducks. Hairston will take a very good Duck team deep into the NCAA tourney again this year. Malik has crazy hops and a skillset to be one of the best players in the country. Hairston will open eyes this year! We love you down here in Cottage Grove Oregon. If you are still bored up in portland, Check out Malibu Grand Prix in Wilsonville. Please dont get too crazy and get hurt though!
-
OJ Mayo, no doubt. Kid's got so much pressure on him, yet he still blows up for 20pts opening game when everyone & their mother knows he's their go-to guy. He's a basketball beast who should just continue to improve.
-
Michael Beasley!! AKA Michael BEASTLY
-
Hands down Maya Moore from UCONN. So far in 2 games she has averaged 19.5 minutes/game, 26 points/game, 7.5 rebounds/game, 4 assits/game, 4 steals/game, and 2.5 blocks/game - COMING OFF THE BENCH. In tonights game she came off the bench in the first half and had 22 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals in 15 minutes. This girl is the real deal. Try to catch her sometime on TV. I saw you at the Indy/Phx game this Summer and I know you can appreciate this girls game.
-
this is off topic but do you keep in touch with any of your HS teamates? if so how is brandon mcdonald doing...is he playing college ball anywhere?
-
Kevin Love; not only is he a product of Oregon but he has a chance to really show off in the UCLA spotlight. And you know that Portlanders support their basketball players!

Dude, the season just started, give him a chance.
-
You don't sound rude, just LAME! He is totally focused on basketball. What do you think he is blogging about? He'll be playing against some of these guys in the near future, considered it research. He is totally blazers dedicated, did you not see him on the bench at the nuggets game? And every other game this year.

Geez dude, you might need to lighten up and not take things so seriously. Basketball is just entertainment. Projecting your hopes, dreams, and desires on a rookie just seems unhealthy in general.~Nathan

I only talk about my job at all times. There is nothing more to my life.
-
WOW, that might be the stupidest couple of comments I have ever read on the internet. Are you aware that Greg is going to read your ignorant comments about his "lack of dedication" to the team.
If Greg jumps ship in 4 years(which he has every right to do as a human being. you can work where you want), it will be because of crap like this... Do you remember when Roy was hurt last year??? He sat in the 2nd row looking like a uninterested as well. My guess is that it is not fun to sit on the bench when you want to get on the floor and help your team.
ps. It was reported that Greg put on 30lbs of muscle and the blazers had to tell him to STOP working so hard in the weight room, most undedicated player ever... -
It takes a lot of chutzpa to presume to tell someone what they should or should not be blogging about on their own blog man... A blog is as much for the author as the audience as a way to interact. This isn't a periodical aimed at an audience, it's just Greg being gracious enough to interact with his fans. blazersedge.com is a great place to go for Blazers info if you need your fix. ~Nathan
-
Agreed. Let the man blog about whatever he wants!
I love reading about stuff like Greg's dog or everyday life. -
Man, I'm sure Greg does more than just rehab and think about the Blazers all day. It's Greg's blog, let the man talk about what he wants to talk about. And I like this topic by the way
-
Yeah, it is a really good topic. So many great players this year... can't really go wrong.
-
Top three reasons why it'll be Michael Beasley:
3) There's a couple pretty decent freshman that entered the NBA draft last year. Everyone's looking for the next phenoms, so it's got to be another frosh. Love isn't necessarily exciting, Mayo's going to have a tough time living up to expectations, and Rose is going to hit a wall. Beasley, on the other hand, is Beastly. Yeah. Michael Beastly, or something like that.
2) He had something like 625 points and 87 rebounds in the opener. Can't argue with that.
1) http://youtube.com/watch?v=sO45UPWd1Uo
That, and he inherits your title of "Guy Most Likely Not to Get Carded at a Liquor Store Because He Looks Like a Grown-Ass Man."
Good luck with the recovery Greg.
By the way, did you post this from the team plane on the way to Philly or what? -
I would have to say Tajuan Porter from Oregon. He is only 5' 6" but he can shoot lights out. He is so little and quick that no one will be able to stop him. He has one of the quickest shots in all of the college basketball. You also might want to keep an eye on Kevin Love at UCLA and Kyle Singler at Duke. These guys will be super freshmen.
-
Tajuan Porter from the University of Oregon, no contest. He's a sophomore, like us, and he's the top returning scorer on a Ducks team that reached the Elite Eight last year. He set the Pac-10 Freshman 3-point FG record with 110 of 'em and was the Pac-10 tourney MVP where he was 13 for 21 from three over three games. He's got 17 ppg through 3 games this season and hasn't even opened it up yet. And oh yeah did I mention he's only 5'6" (with shoes and a little gracious measuring). If you ever get some free time during the season you should definitely make the trip down I-5 to Eugene and catch the Ducks play, they run a real run n' gun offense and are a blast to watch, especially Tajuan!!
-
and if you any more proof heres a clip of him dropping a 3/4 court buzzer beater en route to a 38 point and oregon record 10 threes in one game last year

KOSTA KOUFOS!!! Someone has to fill your shoes for the Buckeyes this year and Kosta is going to do his best. He has great post moves and can even shoot the 3. He is the second in line of 7 ft phenoms at Ohio State including yourself and B.J. Mullens coming in next year. I can't even imagine if you and Kosta were playing together this year, it wouldn't even be fair for the competition. Go Bucks!!!
Greg, you should come back to OSU and jump in mirror lake tomorrow. We are going to mess Michigan up on Saturday!!! -
I was really impressed with Koufos' play Tuesday night against Colombia. His play really is very mature.
-
I agree 100% with you!!! I was in bloomington for the opener and he single handedly put the hoosiers on his back for 33 i think. Hopefully he can take my hoosiers(sory greg) to the final 4 this year since he will probly be one and done,
ps,,,is Grason Flitner an option???he did beat up Kentucky pritty bad GW lucked out on landing such a pure shooter like him -
Eric Gordon will be ridiculous this year! I'm from indy also...went to Decatur Central. Coming in and droppin 33 in your first college game? I'm calling EJ for a possible Big Ten POY award. Get out of here...Gordon for sure.
-
I agree with you Greg, Eric Gordon is gonna be the MEP this year without a doubt...I watched his 1st game and he set the frosh record and was effortlessly schooling kids on the basletball court, fade away 3's, nasty dunks, court vision, he has got it all... It may be a little too early to say for sure, but after the 1st week of the season he is without a doubt the MEP of the year.
-
Kevin Love. UCLA. He may not be the flashiest player this year who will get the most covers and attention (That will be a toss-up between Mayo of USC, Gordon of IU, Rose of Memphis, or Beasley of KSU). He may not be the most fun to watch (Tajuan Porter of Oregon or Neitzel of Michigan), the biggest surprise (Blake Griffin of OU), or the most clutch (Lofton of Tenn or Douglas-Roberts of Memphis). But, Kevin Love will be the most exciting. His ability to defend, score, and especially pass will make him the most exciting player in college hoops this year. He will fit into the system at UCLA well, and have the players around him to help him succeed (especially when Darren Collison gets healthy). Love will make Hibbert of GT and Hansbrough seem boring, slow, and irrelevant. While others might be drawn to the flash of Beasley and Gordon, the most exciting player this year will "wow" the nation with his fundamentals and team play. By the end of the season, his signature outlet pass to start the break will get as much play on highlight shows than the dunks and threes that usually dominate. I think the first winner of "Oden's Outlet Pass" ought to be the guy who will make the outlet pass relevant and famous once again. Go Old School. GO, go with Love.
-
Great pick by choosing Eric Gordon, he will have a great season this year. And I'm choosing him to be one of the most EXCITING players this season too. Let me break it down for you Greg. Eric Gordan's game is amazing, probably has had the best all around game in high school, since Kobe Bryant. And he is most likely the best guard in the country. Just look at his 48 point game performance at Bob Gimmons Memorial Day Tournament, that's phenomenal work. Also lets not forget his performances at (Nike Beach Camp, Big Time Tournament in Vegas) Etc, the list goes on. And his three point range is on point too, this guy has it all. Also his strong physical body will make him a great defender in college hoops. He will be more than exciting to watch, so Eric gets my vote.
