Another Bump In The Road
I've been here in Portland working out with the team, getting down to business. I have been having fun guarding LaMarcus and Channing. Those guys are really good. I've also been learning a lot from guarding them too. We have been lifting, running, and playing. I finally felt like i was getting into really good shape, which i was told is one of the most important things in the game of basketball. On my vacation earlier this summer i got up off the couch and remember my knee having a sharp pain in it. That was about a month ago. I didn't tell anyone because i didn't want to seem like i was complaining or making excuses for anything. Plus i wasn't doing anything at the time i realized it hurt, so i figured it couldn't be anything big. After a couple of weeks, i had to finally tell someone so i went to St. Vincent's Sports Performance (where i worked out at before draft) and got my knee looked at. That was right before i moved to Portland for good. My knee was swollen since i was there. I finally just said that i need to tell my trainer because this is not normal. We went to the doctor's the next day to get a MRI and that night me and my mom ended up in the doctor's office being told that I have to get surgery. It's a light one, just a scoop, but still it's just another setback. I would like for me to be playing and not seem like i'm a high maintenance player, but things just keep popping up.

Greg - do what you have to do - your health is number one priority. We want you healthy and durable....don't worry about the setbacks. Take care of business. Those of us in Portland welcome you and look forward to our future.
Dave in Portland -
I've had knee surgery before. If it's just cartlidge or less, you're fine. Don't sweat it, you'll be fine. And don't worry about everyone in Portland freaking out. They just don't have anything else to do right now. Once it starts raining they'll be back to their cheery selves. Good luck.

Being a born native of the Rose city and spending my first 26 years there I have a whole new perspective on the rain in my favorite city in the world.
I have lived in Texas and currently live in Florida. 98 w/97% humidity is normal.
There is about a 4-5 month period that no one goes outside becuase its too hot. AC runs all day as it is now at 12:07pm...in September no less.
I MISS THE RAIN!!!!!
At least in the winter it means snow for swoshing at hood....or fishin...or campin, or...dirt(mud biking) or????
When it rains here they freak out and go back inside again.
LET IT RAIN!!!!
Forget the hurricains....I want the rain!!!!
Ok....
Hey Greg......Don't be in a rush and come back to early.
You have a long carrer to show your stuff.
And...enjoy the rain!!!!

Hang in there big fella. It's a bummer, but NBA seasons are long. They call it a marathon, not a sprint. Careers are long. Think long term. Take care of your body. Stretch before every workout or game. Eat right. Drink plenty of water - not soda. Get good sleep. If you need major surgery, only let the best, most experienced put a knife to you. This Blazer fan is pulling for your speedy and complete recovery. Go G.O.!

Greg, Thursday can't come any sooner!

Good iuck on your surgery, and I hope this is just another bump in the road. I advise against watching ESPN for the next week or so as well.
-

-
Hang in there Greg...we're not worried, you'll recover and be great.
-
Thanks Mr. Oden. We all appreciate you giving us this message. It's bad news that you have to go under the knife again. Just know that everyone in the Yard is rooting for you to get to full strength and lead the Blazers for the next decade to come.

Hey Greg,
Not sure if you are familiar with Reiki but it is a Japanese relaxation technique the promotes healing. Sometimes it has dramatic results. I have been attuned to perform Reiki but there are also master Reiki practicioners in portland like my Teacher. I plan on working with my teacher to send you Reiki and would be more then willing to give you a treatment if you wanted one. I urge you to do visualizations of your knee being healed and whole on a daily basis. This will help your body to promote it's healing process. I just about lost it last night when I first heard. I did the guest blog on Blazersedge.com and was horrified that same day when I heard the news. I want you to know that I for one will support you through thick and thin. Be healthy long term and don't worry about making a come back too soon just because the fans or media are restless. The National media of course will have a field day with this because they are vultures but that is just their nature and when you are helathy again they will love you all over again, that is their nature. Best thoughts of peace and healing sent your way. Be well Greg.

Greg, I hope all goes well for you dude. Just take care of yourself and know that the Blazer community is behind you all the way. If you ever need anything just ask, us Blazer fans will pretty much do anything for our players. You need someone whacked, gimme a call...... you need someone whacked??? LOL Get better Greg.

Keep your head up, big guy! We want you to speak up whenever you feel pain. By keeping it to yourself, you will end up missing more games in the long run.
Pay no attention to naysayers--the true fans will love & support you as a Blazer NO MATTER WHAT. -
You will get through this surgery just fine!
-
Better now than during camp. Defense, Defense, Defense GregO.
-
Keep your head up Greg. Everything is gonna be fine. Better to get this taken care of now then midseason right. See ya at the Garden.
-
Good luck
-

Heard about this on Hot 96.3 this morning. Hope you're feeling better man.
-
Keep your head up, Greg!
I'm sure they've already told you, but in the future please be willing to discuss your pain with the staff as soon as it arises.
You will miss fewer games in the long run, and that's what your fans really want.
Best wishes in a speedy recover! -
Greg, don't stress too much about it. LaMarcus had shoulder problems before he even played a game for the Blazers. Roy's heel was a problem for most of the season and he won Rookie of the Year. See what's wrong with your knee, fix it, and stay in shape. Stay up and get better.

We love you greg! If you need places to hang out drop me a line!

Thanks for the down-to-earth message! As many have told you, Portland is behind you. I hope it makes you feel a little better that the team is so deep up front, even if the other players aren't Greg Oden. Maybe the team will get off to a good start and then be bolstered by your return. I'm sorry you won't be getting into a flow and rhythm headed into the season, but then LaMarcus started last year recovering from shoulder surgery and I worried about his season. He was a force in his first game back, against Dallas. Good luck Greg!
-
Hey Greg, I just bought tickets for my whole family to take them to the Blazers game on Christmas. We look forward to seeing you there! My nephews are going to flip! I know you're going to be fine, and I can't wait to see you play in person.
By the way are you and B-Roy watching the football game together this weekend? If so, I've got one thing to say: GO HUSKIES! -
Greg, I hope all goes well with the surgery on Thursday. Take as much time as you need to recover and don't feel pressured by the Blazers, the fans, or yourself to come back too early.
I'm one of hundreds of Ohio State grads in the Portland area, and I've been a Blazers' fan since I moved here in 1974. We're really excited you're here in Portland. There has been a fair share of controversy regarding centers, injuries, and draft selection with the Blazers over the years; let all the speculation and criticism roll off you like water off a duck's back. Take care of yourself and return when you are ready and blow off the unwarranted criticisms and speculations as to what should have. I look forward to your healthy return to the Blazers. -
Hey Greg, don't sweat it. Injuries happen. I think everyone knows you are no complainer or question your work ethic. As a season ticket holder I am just happy that we have guys like you on our team that care about what his team and fans are thinking. I am sure I speak for thousands of people in saying we think you are a class act and we look forward to a healthy Greg Oden in the near future!! Good luck Thursday!!

Your procedure is going to be a simple one (been there, done that with very little damage - just as they are going to find on your knee). At 19, a couple of months seems like a short lifetime but at 64, yes, I AM as old as I look, it is only a couple of afternoon naps away. You are a very special person and don't let this minor physical setback EVER change that. Many prayers are with you, stay strong and confident!
-
Good luck,Greg! Your health is more important than what others think of you. Take care of yourself :)
-
Yo GOD.... This ain't nothin, man, I know this won't set you back a bit. I'm SOOOO lookin forward to you dominating TD in your guys' first game. Best of luck to ya man, and get well soon!!!

Greg,
Thank you for the candor in sharing your situation with the public. You have many fans in Portland. The true fans will be patient. A career in the NBA is not something that lasts a week or a month or a season. You are a young man with many years ahead of you. Get your body right and then give it your all. It is not where you start that matters, but where you finish. La Marcus was not well enough to start last season, but he sure did impress with the way he finished. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Let the docs fix what needs fixing, and then get out there and play. Best wishes for a speedy recovery,
Mark -
I learn from other's mistakes. I'll never get off of the couch again for fear of injury.
-
GO-Style, You are not high maintenance, you are da man. 10 Fingers, 11 rings baby. A little loose cartilage ain't going to hold U back. See you in the playoffs THIS year. You are the glue to our D, and future. The other guys will hold down the fort until you're 100%. No worries, bro. Get well-
-
G O FIVE TWO, God Bless You! We all love you here in P-Town and were prayin for ya. You will be back and dunkin on the Duncan in no time!
-
G.O. as you said, just a bump, you'll be back up to speed in no time. Good luck Thursday!
-
Hang in there Greg. Go Buckeyes!
-
Hey Greg, No worries, I just hope this won't be an ongoing deal. You got my support bud.
-
Greg, we wish you the very best with your health and your career, but your health should come first. If not, your team itself suffers. Those of us in the Philadelphia area are still waiting for our own 'Greg Oden' to come, somehow, and save us! Your affiliation with Portland is a gift and a blessing to that city's sports community. You have a great future ahead of you! Best wishes.
-
Get some rest. You'll be fine in no time.
