Tonsils
Saturday i got my tonsils out. It was a surgery that i needed to get done. If i did so i wouldn't have any problem with my tonsils during the season. I usually have like 4 or 5 sore throats a year. At the end of last season i had the worst one yet. i couldn't even swallow water, it hurt to breathe out of my mouth and i lost like 15 pounds. Most of my sore throats got to the point where i couldn't swallow water without having pain. I look crazy when i go out to a restaurant and drink water and tense up every time i take a drink or eat something. The surgery went fine. it was early saturday morning. It was like a 45 minute surgery. They put the stuff in my IV to make me go to sleep and i was just laying there on the table. The next thing i remember was in one of the hospital beds saying when we gonna get started, but it was already over. It was very painless. I was rushing to get out of the hospital and get back to the hotel. When i got there, the first thing i did was turn the air to cold and then get in bed. I passed out sitting up, i was in that position for like 5 hours until i woke up. The first night wasn't even that bad. If i felt any pain, then i'd take some medicine which was in liquid form. The little pain that i did have would go away just like that. I actually ate kraft mac and cheese that night. The next night when i woke up i had a puddle of blood where i was sleeping. It was in the spot where my puddle of slobber is usually at. I had to gargle with cold water which would stop the bleeding. To keep my weight up I'm actually drinking protein shakes with my meals. On the second day i shouldn't of because my stomach was feeling weak just from the little bit of food i had but i forced down the protein shake which sent me over. I got sick. I didn't even make it to the toilet -- just to the sink. It was mac and cheese, ugh it was nasty but i felt better. Other than those incidents i've been doing pretty well. My throat gets sore and dry and i can feel the scab now but when i take my medicine I'm usually fine. Hopefully they let me go home with my mom because they usually want you to stay for 2 weeks, but im doing good and its gonna suck being out here by myself in a hotel room all day.

Many happy returns, man. I'm really excited for you and the team. Just rest, rest, rest.
It blows about your tonsils, but better now than later, huh? This season is gonna be really cool for you, I can feel it. Stay positive and take good care.

I read on a Blaze board you were seen in a Riteaid with your mom buying a popsicle, but it sound like it was true if you've been stuck in a hotel room.
At any rate, glad you are getting better and especially glad you are pretty much pain free.
When you say 'home' do you mean back east? Are you buying a home here in the Portland area?

Thanks for the update. If you get outside you will notice that the temperature is nice and cool, and we had some rain today. Someday, after you have lived here for many years, you will appreciate it when it rains after a long stretch of sunny days. We moved here 10 years ago from the East Coast. We have come to like it when it rains. When you reach that point, you will be a true Oregonian! I hope you have the chance to enjoy the summer in Oregon before the really hard work starts of getting ready for the NBA season.
Best wishes,
Mark

We love you man those kinds of blogs keep reminding us that you are who you are and thats all we want from you is a guy who's not afraid to be one of us. Thats the heart of Portland man. No hype just real. Kick back man and enjoy just relaxing. Try to forget about basketball for a while and all of us with the unrealistic expectations. We already know we're gonna love you. Because the best part of you is on display already. Life isn't about basketball, it's about who you have to become to be great at anything. God bless man and get better soon.

Its great to hear that you're feeling better. I hope your feeling the good vibrations Oregonians are sending you. You're a great guy. I was one of those "Durant" supporters, but you have totally changed my mind. You are exactly what this team needs. Welcome to Portland!

I love your brutal honesty. The puddle of blood where the slobber usually is has got to be my favorite quote from ya yet. Im just happy to know im not the only one who drools all over my pillow when im sleeping. Good luck to ya and get well soon.

wow, while I was reading it, i got really sad because your going through alot. And whats with paying for internet access, they should let you use it for free, C'mon now, you are Greg Oden!!!. You are so down to earth, you sound like a normal person instead of a star. Oh and ugh If I get a chance, I'll play NCAA 08 against you on my 360, You can be the Gators and I'll be the Buckeyes , I will smash you, I'll bet anything. I couldnt go to the rally because I was on a vacation that day, I WANTED TO GO SO BAD!!! I like your dance dude, is tight. But yeah, you should talk to Travis Outlaw when you are playing with him, he is so shy. I am so happy that he's back with us.

Get well Big Fella. Looking forward to seeing you block the Sh*t out of many a shots this coming year. Durant might have done a little scoring in summer league (while shooting 28%), but you had some MONSTER blocks man. And yes, Tillamook Ice Cream Chocolate Peanut Butter is the best ever. Im sure the Raspberry is bomb too though.

From that guy that used to live in southern oregon that told you umpqua ice cream was the best, and the tillamook guy? Ya, I would say that those two are the best. Hey, make sure that you get some of that good home cookin of moms. Moms are so great! Hope you get to feelin better. Thanks, for being so graphic and real with us man.

I think we need to talk to Paul Allen about changing the name of the Rose Garden to the OOOOOOOHHHHH DEN!!!!! You remind me a lot of Shaq when he first came in the league, but I think you are easily going to dominate so much sooner. Enjoy the rest of your summer.......its going to be a long season.

Remember your loved ones and good friends who rally around you during a recovery from an illness or surgery because as you develop in the NBA it will remind you of the people who are there for you when the chips are down....not just hangers on who may try to attach themselves to your fame and fortune.
Blazers fans everywhere are VERY excited, proud, and psyched to have you on our team! Take care of yourself and the rest will follow! Get well soon!

I'm a long time Blazer fan in remote Alaska. I work for a company that maintains a early warning radar site in King Salmon, on the far, southwestern coast of Alaska. In fact, it is also the king salmon capital in the US and there is lots of salmon fishing, commercially and sports wise. The township of King Salmon is only a third of a mile away from the base, maybe even closer. Lots of folks come in to hunt for carboui and moose, and especially for bear, which we have all three. If you would like to come our location, I can probably arrange a boat to take you out fishing, (from another one of your fans) or just sighseeing. I am not sure if you can stay with me on base but there is pleney of hotel accomdations within the area. There are a lot of Blazer/Oden fans here in Alaska and we would love to have you come up and visit us. It would be the highlight event for years to come to meet you, not to mention the great honor. If so, leave responce and I will foward my email, and we will make arrangements maybe next year, thanks!
Your sincere fan always. Al

I am one of your biggest fans. I am sorry to hear that you are sick... but sounds like you will recover. I am glad that you had the surgery. You're young and will recovery quickly. All the best. I was watching the US team last night and was wondering why you were not on the team. I was upset at first because I thought you were picked for the team. This morning when I went on ESPN.com. I was happy to hear that you were picked... but unfortunately recovering from surgery.
All the best to you Big Man;) Keep smiiling.

I was surprised to hear you had your surgery at Southwest Washington Medical Center. I work in Vancouver as a paramedic so I'm at that hospital a lot. Our training requires us to go the OR to practice placing breathing tubes though peoples throats and into their lungs. Wow, that would have been a trip to see you there. Who was your surgeon and anesthesiologist? I bet I've worked with them before. Can't wait to see you develop into a true NBA center this year.
