Summer

This week ive arrived in Columbus. This is the place where i will spend my whole entire summer. Im going to try to stay in one spot this summer. Last year i went to alot of different places but this year i want to not travel so much and keep myself working out and not on other stuff. I will be taking classes this summer too. When i got back here and i was going to move in i didnt have anything in my room. I got myself a bed and put together a tv stand and a night stand. Im really proud of that because i did it, it made me feel good that i put it together all by myself. I also had my first workout yesterday my body is super sore i squatted for the first time in like two years. My legs was sore after four of them. At the end of the work out i couldnt even feel my legs but i know it will get better next week and i will keep on working hard and harder than the next day preparing for next season.

I just bought a TV table from Ikea last weekend and it took me THREE HOURS to put it together, but I was so proud of myself when I was done! I did pull a muscle trying to drag the parts from my car to my apartment though.... Good to hear from you Greg, I hope the summer continues to go well!

Good stuff G.O. Keep up the hard work big man. Kinda weird question, have you thought about what your offseason goals are? It sounds like you're working on your legs which is good because everyone needs a good base. But I was just wondering if you set specific goals for yourself. I ask because the past few years Martell Webster has had interviews at the end of the years, laying out specifically what he wanted to work on in the offseason (speed, defense, conditioning, whatever). I was just wondering if you set goals like that also, and if so what are they?

Hope you enjoy your summer and keep up with the great workouts. Try to have fun with your classes, maybe take a dance class, great workout for feet movement, not to mention maybe you could do better than Drexler on Dancing With The Stars someday! Have a fun, safe summer.

I know what you mean by being sore after squating. If you do that for the first time in a while you will be so sore you can't walk up the stairs for a week. I put together my TV stand from Costco too, that stuff takes like 2 hours of dedication lol.

Rather than kiss your ass like most people do, allow me to be a bit critical and say some things you may not want to hear. MAN UP. NO MORE EXCUSES. Although what im saying has nothing to do with your post, I wish you could come out with some fire this year and really improve on some things. You need some leg strength, you need to learn to play your man without fouling so damn much. Work on your offensive game. Get into shape. Yes I know you did come off a major knee surgery and I hope that has healed. But dammit Greg, Ive been backing you up and am sick and tired of people talking so much SHT about you. come back and show everyone that you ARE the next big center of the league. and honestly? you gotta work out harder than hard. sore? man it up. this isnt even about expectations anymore, im saying these things because i KNOW you can be more than great. sorry i came out a bit harsh but sometimes these things need to be said and im sure u agree

Greg, please hit the weights hard this summer. Every Blazer fan wants you to go into next season looking like Lou Ferrigno. This is the only way you have a chance of dominating shaquile o'neal and dwight howard. You need to dominate shaquile next season since it might be his last. Please no more jump hooks or lay-ups - only dunks!

Greg- Just keep working and enjoying life. I am a 4th year teacher and as I think back to my first year(rookie) of teaching I just think of how fast everything went. I felt like the world was moving way too fast, now in my 4th year things have slowed down. I understand a great deal more about what works and what I need to leave behind. So keep it up! Things will get easier as long as you work your tail off.

I hope you have a fun summer and that your classes go well. Keep up the work in the gym, it will pay off on the court next year. You should set some goals for yourself. Try to work on that hook shot. Your release point needs to be a little higher IMO. By the way, I bet my friend that you will average 15 and 10 next season. I hope you prove me right:)

Greg, I think you need to have a place of your own. Maybe bring some girls over and lay off your moms cooking. You need to drop about 15 pounds and be the athlete you know you can be. I think you should develop a jumper. Maybe watch some film on Hakeem Olajuwon, he had an awesome jump hook and a killer fade away.

Sounds like a good plan Greg. I can't wait to see you next year when you've had time to heal, build your body and work on your post game. After watching the playoffs this year, I can see you developing into a Dwight Howard type force with work in the gym and the weight room. Let's hope next year your playing in June.

Did you accept playing with the USA team?
While it rains a lot in Portland, the NBA season is during the worst weather rain wise. It ends just before we get nice weather and begins after the nice weather ends. Most NBA players wouldn't know this unless they do live in Portland, but believe me we do get a lot of sunshine too! :)
Hey, don't listen to these posters that don't have a clue what you do during the off season. Just listen to your coaches and do what you know is right. I have all the confidence in the world in you!

Hey, GO: let me second what some of the other posters have mentioned. You're here in Portland when the weather is the worst (though October is sometimes pretty nice). Summers here beat the heck out of summers in most of the rest of the country. Hang here next summer and you'll see what we mean. Thanks for posting and hope you have a great season next year.

Whats up Greg.. I'm from Philly and I share the same last name as you.. Cool aint it.. Didnt know until i got into the Military that Oden was a greek god.. My fellow soldiers used to yell my name.. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.. hahahahaha.. But nah seriously.. that was cool.. The Sixers wanted you but we got real good as soon as we traded Iverson and well.. It was a wrap from there.. Even tho I like Thaddeous Young I tend to think we could have had you both with 3 first rounders had the draft position been different.. Woulda Coulda Shoulda right? Point of my comment I guess is to say... You are the most physically talented guy at the position besides Dwight Howard.. If you find a quality Big man coach like Moses Malone and Hakeem Olawjawon.. You would be a beast. Lose some of that weight you put on and go back to the Ohio state Version of yourself and man you are everything Portand thinks and knows you are. Once you put in the work with the on the block offensive skills.. Get that big man coach to show you the offensive moves.. Man the sky is the limit..

You can even get Nike to market you as "Oden" the greek god when your game gets on point.. Because If you dont do it.. My son is going to lol He is in AU leagues and he will definately be nice when he comes of age.. Well man.. Stay positive and keep your head up. There are alot of people that think the world of you and obviously you didnt get here by luck. So let the hateful people hate and Make the best of your God given ability. You could be one of the best at the end.. LIke a cross between David Robinson and Billl russell.. Get those post moves and you'll be great man.. Peac e

Yo Greg this is a fellow Greg from Portland and one think i did to get my vertical up was build a box jump in high school and jumped on to it with ankle weights. you could build one with stairs on one side so you would not get the impact on your knees from jumping down. squats are great but to get that explosive vertical up you need to jump. also lunges where you explode up to your tip toe without using your other foot for balance is good for strength and balance.

Greg, good to hear you are working out in the off season. I was also wondering if you have some physical goals to achieve?? Are you looking to drop some LB's and get back to your lightning quick college days? It would also give your knees a break from the 82 game pounding of the regular season. Look what it did for the Vanilla Gorilla and his shot blocking this last season!!! As for your offensive game, REPS, REPS, REPS! The best in the game are the ones that get to the gym first, leave last, and get in massive amounts of reps. Keep up the good work and just know that we are all here to support you!

Hi Greg. I hope you are having a productive and pleasant summer. One of these years, you might want to hang out in Portland during the summer. Except for the day of the Rose Festival Parade (today), the weather here is usually spectacular from May through September. Having lived in NYC for 18 years, I know how summers can be in the East. Oppressive temperatures and humidity are the rule all summer long. You won't find those problems in Portland. Many Blazers who came to Portland to play basketball found this to be an ideal place to remain during their life after the NBA. Brian Grant is only one recent example. There are many others. It is unfortunate that the basketball season takes place during the worst possible weather in Portland. To appreciate how things are here, you really need to be here during the off-season and find out for yourself.

I have been a season ticket holder for the past 10 years, and have never seen as much enthusiasm for the team as we have today. The past season the Blazers exceeded expectations in many ways. There is still room for improvement, obviously. We are looking forward to seeing you back, with renewed energy, greater strenth, a love for the game, and a burning desire to make the most of whatever opportunities come to yourself and our team.

Hey G.O. heard you and Bayless are working out together. That's sick. Hopefully you 2 get a good chemistry out on the court so we see those nasty lob dunks you used to do in college. You guys working out with LaMarcus at all? He's got some sick post moves he started bustin out last year, seeing you with some of those moves would just be scary big man.
