San Diego

This past weekend i was in San Diego at the comic convention. It was pretty crazy, there were a lot of people dressing up in costumes. A lot of star wars and a lot of jokers walking around. I got to go there because Viz Media brought me out to do a photo shoot with the basketball comic book they have coming out really soon. I also signed autographs and took pictures too. While i was doing the photo shoot i had to look like i was reading the book, i got hardcore into the book and forgot about the pictures. Its actually a really good book. It is as big as a real book but its in comic book form. Also you read it backwards, that got me confused a lot. Once i got started reading it the right way it was actually pretty good. All i can say about it is that there is a dude in there who has a box and he got dunk on. I got to meet a lot of interesting people. I meet some of the cast from Death Ride they were really cool. My weekend was pretty fun San Diego is a very cool and beautiful city, i had a great time and ill like to go there and hang out some more.

what up big greg. everyone who has seen that pic of us that we took at the espys have been laughing at me bc i look so small standing next to u. i wanna let u know that u r lucky u will never feel the pain and exhaustion of 2 a day NFL training camps. we are in are 5th day and it feels like 5 weeks. ANyway big man, im jealous as hell that u got to go to comicon, i love all things comics and videogames but comicon is always during our season. enjoy ya off time, i got meetings to go to

Sounds like you had a good time in there. Good thing you got out before the quake hit. Go check out the zoo next time if you haven't been there. Found a story about you going to the convention.

    Sure can, working on it right now. I did a tv report for my school's news show once on the anime club on campus a couple years back. Not sure if you can mix manga and basketball, but GO likes it.

Glad you had fun dude...wowzers! I went to the gym today and shot around and dang! I think I shoot alot but there were a bunch of guys that couldn't make the local college team and they were way outclassing me. To think there are bigger colleges and then the NBDL and Europe and then the NBA...dang! What do you think it will be like facing such a high level of competition next year? Duncan, Amare, Dwight, etc. next year?

GO...I moved to the Oregon coast from San Diego where I was born and lived until I was 46. There is much to do there, as you say, but it's full of crime and pollution, just like any large city when you get right down to it. I've become a full-fledged small town junkie. Sometime hang out in Lincoln City, or Bandon, or Joeseph. You'll be amazed at how peaceful it can be while still providing some cool activities. You can't get bored...as boredom is for boring people!

  I think that KP is looking our for the best interest of Greg as well as the teams. Waiting until he is ready to play is better than rushing back and ruining his career. He isn't property, and it's good he knows his body well enough to know he could be playing right now, but there is a lot at stake. There's no sense in letting his team mates down by playing in a meaningless game in the summer.

I bought a pair of season tickets before the draft this year in anticipation of things selling out...I couldn't be more correct! I bet this year will BE THE most successful year in Rose Garden history, and I have a feeling many of the games will sell out!
Man, enjoy things as much as you can before things start getting real busy and real hectic...

Was the basketball comic from Viz Media called "Slam Dunk?" Viz is releasing that in their monthly magazine, Shonen Jump. If you haven't been able to tell already, Viz publishes Japanese manga (comics) and that's why you read it backwards.

Hello, it's been a while since I've droped you a line or two. How are you doing? Probably sick of answering that hu? Personally I'm a little irritated with the microscope you've been put under over the past year, I know the pressure has got to be building, as the expectations unfairly rise against you. I have faith though greg, I have faith that you being the man that you are are keeping your integrity about you and are, still as oak'ish as you were when you left ohio. Some of the fans are screaming playoffs, and a few are even declairing bust. I'm sure that bothers you, it would me. Try not to sweat it, and remember who you are...YOUR GREG ODEN!!! and you control what happens with you...it's your turn to shake the foundation of the nba, Earthquakes are not a common thing up here in the northwest, but yours will be one welcomed on a daily basis. I imagine the first play of the first game of your first season should go something like this.....
tip off...you win of course...steve gains control of the rock,....tosses it to roy....roy entry pass to lamarcus...lamarcus spins...draws a double...you like the g-od you are, fly in with a smile equal to a morning after with brad pit's wife, and ALLY OPP FROM aldridge, and the rip needs 20 min to be repaired.....get ready greg....it's almost time to go to work!!!

Greg, You are a beast!! I cannot wait to see you play and dominate the inside in the league. I am a bigi fan and watched you from Wooster Oh during your Buckeye days. I was wondering if you have an address where I could send something to be signed? Keep up the rehab and you are already leaps and bounds beyond the talent in the middle currently. Greg, Kurt in Portland. Just wanted to let you know that I am really looking forward to this season as a Blazer fan since 1976. First off forget about Los Angeles. I lived there for over a year and it's atrocious. Besides Blazer fans detest the Lakers. Bynum is yours to own. Make him give up. No prisoners. Portland is a great town and soon you will own it. Drexler, Porter, Williams, Lucas, Walton, etc will confirm that when the Blazers give 110% on the court this city will give you the key. You won't have to pay for anything and will receive nothing but love from the community. I want you to know that Blazer fans are looking to you to be the savior and the final piece that brings a title back to Portland. Play in control, with passion as well as a mean-streak and this town will give you anything you desire. Learn how NBA referees officiate the game so you stay on the court and punish the rest of the league. Every game is important and I believe that you could end up as the best center to ever play the game, and yes that includes Russell and Jabaar. Listen to the coaches and dominate the league. Make other teams fear seeing Portland on the schedule. Move your feet rather than reach, be physical against your opponents and own the lane. Make the other team try to beat us from outside. Pass to the open shooter from the double team and hit the cutter. You have a fantastic coaching staff and a first-rate facility. Don't put too much pressure on yourself early on. You have fantastic teammates in Roy, LMA, Rudy, Bayless, Travis, Martell, Blake, etc. Use them and don't try to do too much too soon. Be a team and when playing on the road take the fans out of the game by taking them out of the game and dominating early. Portland WILL make the playoffs this season and you have the potential to go to the big show and be the ROY. Good luck and make us proud. Use your mind as much as your body. Good luck this season, I look forward to watching you play.

Dangit G.O.!! I was at ComiCon this year too! I missed you and didn't even know you were in my fine city! What do you think of it compared to Oregon? I think the ladies are definitely better here, but WAY friendlier in PDX and I miss my rivers! Next time u are in town lemme know! We'll hang! I'll even make some of my world famous pancakes for you! Hopefully you can come on down for ComiCon next year and I'll finally get to meet you. Take care bro!!
