Rookie Photo Shoot

Today was the day that all the rookies in the NBA came together and took pictures and did interviews for the upcoming season. They said that we were going to be in New York City but we ended up in Old Greenwich, Connecticut. We are like 30 minutes from downtown Manhattan. We all came in a day early, well those of us that could have. When i got there, i saw mostly all the people from Topps. It was cool. I got to meet the people who gave me that great card contract. I gave them hugs. So we had to get up at like 8 and we were there till like 7 at night, it was a very long day. I also signed alot of the autographs that i need to do for Topps. It wasn't that bad though. They made it fun for me. They were really cool and they had the tv on with some music. My friend and teammate Josh McRoberts is here in my room right now and he is going to guest write about what his day was like at the T-Mobile Rookie Photo Shoot day, "Whats up everybody in Oden Nation...The Rookie Photo Shoot was definitely a long day, but it was a lot of fun to see everybody in their NBA Jerseys for the first time. We took alot of pictures obviously and did some interviews...most of the questions that I field have to do with the interesting fact that I personally know Greg Oden. The best part of the day for me was trading signed cards with most of the other players...right now its not that exciting, but it will be a cool thing to have a few years down the line when I'm done playing, so at least I can prove to my kids that I knew some of the guys from this years draft class. I can't wait to get back to Portland in late August and get the new season started. Thanks for letting me get a shout out on Greg's blog...if i get some good feedback he might even let me write a sequel." All in all it was a good day, but I'm looking forward to going back home and finally being able to work out which i can on monday. Theres a picture of Josh in my profile, check it out.

Those of us that have been Blazer fans for 37 years can't wait for this years class act to begin playing together not only this year but for many, many years to come. While I have over 2,000 cards, mostly basketball, I have few signed. You guys may have this years rookies signed on the card but I have Satchel Paige signed on the baseball... In 1961, he played with the Portland Beavers at age 56 (or so). He pitched 25 innings. As you both begin your career in the NBA, I would like you to take with you this quote from Satchel Paige:

You guys take care and work hard in Indiana this month. Good to hear from you Josh. You ought to drop in on DBR and post now and then when you have time. I am so glad we have people like you on this team now instead of the guys we've been through recently (A sex offender and a dog fighter just begins to describe the troubles we've seen)
I remember going to get autographs with my dad when I was a kid fron Jerome and Buck (#52 also! =) he passed away a while ago and some of my best memories are watching the Blazers or listening to them on the radio so it was especially sad to see the team get ruined. But I just started tuning in last year and I want to thank you for giving me something good to keep tuning in to.

  I got Jerome Kersey's autograph, too. Did you meet him at the Lens Crafters in Washington Square? I stood in line for four hours to meet him. Greg, you can bet I'm going to get one of those Topps autograph cards!

Ps this is a bit off topic but its funny that Boston had the best odds and didnt end up with you, when they were trying to decide what to name Portland there was a guy from Boston and a guy from Portland, Maine they both wanted to name it after their home cities so they flipped a coin and Portland one.
So if recent luck went a different way you could have ended up in Boston Mass. and if past luck was different you could've ended up in Boston, Oregon. =)

Josh, you're all hype and a big baby. You road Oden's coattails in AAUu to get your recognition, now you;re doing it again. If it weren't for Oden, Portland would've passed you up and you might not have been drafted at all. You're decision to leave Duke early was a bad move to go along with a long line of bad decisions you've made (see Indiana Mr. b-ball temper tantrum). You won nothing in HS and your losing ways followed you to Duke where you were an average player at best. Stop mooching off Greg and go start a blog for 2nd round draft picks elsewhere.

Greg has played against Josh before and has said he is one of the hardest people he's had to guard. What does that tell you about how good he is? Greg, I like the changeup by having McRoberts throw down some literature in Oden Nation. Also, nice job dealing with Miss Gossip's media traps. Obviously she was not fooling anybody. It's the classic media member trying to catch an athlete slipping. Little did she know that G.O. is far too smart for that garbage. McRoberts is money. You guys just work hard, improve your game, and things are going to be a lot of fun around Portland.

Greg, how were your summer games? you had quite a few fouls, was that just getting use to the strength and speed of the NBA? or were you hobbled cas of your throat, but it was nice to see that you were aggressive, and not just sitting back not trying like you could have done because everybody knows you are a sure thing, so it was great to see that you were hustling and doing what you could, good luck with the rest of the off-season, and don't take too many pictures, I don't want to be seeing your mug all over the tv and internet like King James, haha nah just kidding, and Josh, you should really join YB, I think you'd be another great addition, and I'm sure you would be able to write extraordinarily, coming from Duke and everything haha

Greg what do you think of Andrew Bynum? He is already a legit shot blocker(1.6 per game in a little over 20 mpg, 7'1 barefoot, 285 pounds and is only 19 with 2 years of experience. Also what do you think it will be guarding Shaq...I know you were a fan of his and he's 2 inches taller and has like 60 pounds on you...kind of past vs future! Also after meeting Patrick Ewing I am wondering is he really only 6'9 like he claims? Good luck in the NBA

josh you should really have your own blog. bc i want to know why you came to duke. i mean you never seemed to have your heart in it... i cant believe i wasted so much of my first 2 years at duke waiting in the cold to watch you play. hopefully its addition by subtraction next year. honestly though, why duke? why even go if you knew all along that you were just going to leave after 2 years regardless of how you played your second season?! despite my dissapointment, i still want you to do well. good luck in the nba josh. im sure you'll be a much better pro than you were dukie. and for the record i still would have loved to see you in a duke jersey in cameron this season.

Ok - not going to blow up all your blogs with a ton of posts so Ill summarize them here.;

1) That video with Miss Gossip was classic! I lol'ed and made my wife watch it (twice - she called me a dork)
2) No pressure on posting daily - I would much rather your ramblings (no offense) then for you to phone it in. This gives us a better perspective of who you are a sa person - and damn dude, you are funny :)
3) This ones to Josh - get your butt your own Yardbarker, I keep looking for it and dont see it :) And get more of your teammates to post too :)
