Oregon Mentors Event

Last Saturday I had an event for Oregon Mentors called Greg Oden's Summer Slam, it was a fun event where lots of kids and their mentors came out and just had a fun day. It was open to the public so there was also booths where people can sign up to be mentors. I went to every booth and learned a little about all the mentoring programs that are around Portland, there are some really good ones that need help. So if anyone out there that wants to look into it, believe me there are a lot of kids that need and older influence in their lives thats not their parents. The event also had games like Guitar Hero 3, Pin Pong, Air Hockey, a Shuffle Board, blow up things, and kareokee. People have already seen the video of me singing N'synce "Its Gonna Be Me," im not gonna lie, i sound terrible. My thing was it was for the kids they enjoyed me singing so thats all that matters. Also the court at the Rose Garden was open so i went down and ended the day playing Knock Out with the little kids first then the big kids, and yes I WON, i even dunked on a kid. Dont ask me how in a game of knock out, but i managed. In all it was a fun day and im happy the idea of mentoring and that the mentors and mentees had a fun time out.

  LMAO..You dunked on a kid? That's just wrong. Well this is old news but thanks for posting. Stay away from Travis Outlaw, he's sick. No more problems for the Blazers.

  Sure, the "technical" details might have been a bit "unpolished", but you bring the fire for sure, and you're obviously having a good time. I can't wait to see that kind of fire and fun on the court this season -- keep it up!

  Oden, it took me 30 seconds to figure out what song it was you were singing (eventhough I knew it), but Big Ups for putting yourself out there. I am sure you brought nothing but smiles to the faces of those kids. Try not singing so much through your nose next time!

  Oh Greg we love your video. Brought me back to the time Don sang for the team in Fort Wayne. I think he was your singing mentor (well maybe your first inspiration to sing). I can still see you sitting there in shock watching him.

  I just saw you on the 11:00PM news and I absolutely HAVE TO beg you to please, please shave that awful beard off. I realize that Abe Lincoln is worthy of admiration, but do you really need to look like him too? Ugh! Please Greg, for the women of Portland.....Shave! I have thought for years that the Blazers need an image consultant and now I am certain of it. Facial hair aside, you're great and I wish you the best of luck this season.

  I see that Greg made a comment on how his tax bracket means he should probably vote for McCain. That's not true at all considering all people do well under Obama's plan. If McCain cuts taxes for rich people and raises them on the middle class, less money is being spent by the majority of people who propel the economy (middle class). That means the economy does worse, money loses it's value, and means your millions aren't worth as much. If everyone does well though your millions are worth more. Obama is what we need.

  I saw Greg's dunk on the kid - it was funnier than the kareokee (sp). One of the older kids used the tactic of knocking Greg's ball out to the 3-point line. It came right to one of my mentees who tossed it back to Greg. Greg then spun and jammed the ball home to the cheers of the mentees and mentors.
  Now when me and the other mentor that I drove up with (we took 11 boys) see the boy who tossed the ball back, we talk it up and the kid just smiles! Awesome!

  Greg: Try not to worry about what other people are saying. Only YOU know if you can play right now or not. And when you are healthy, you will come back and add true value to the team. The fans who know anything about basketball know you will come back when you can, so don't sweat it. The mental side of injuries is incredibly difficult and if you don't have a good support system it is worse. Make sure you surround yourself with people who support you and have your best interests at heart. GO BLAZERS>
