NUMBER 10
Tonight the Blazers won there 10th game in a row. Its pretty exciting to live in Portland, Oregon these days because the guys are doing so well. We beat the Denver Nuggets tonight and it came down to the wire. I was so nervous during the last minute of the game, i felt that i was playing. Right after we won i just wanted to jump up and down and yell like i made a spectacular dunk on someone. It feels good to be apart of a team thats doing so well. Now the real thing is, i sometimes think that im not apart of it because im not playing, People shake my hand and say you guys are doing great but am i really doing something to help the guys. Im not playing im just there in my tight suit sitting behind the bench. I usually take time after the game and just walk around and take my uncle home with me but tonight i signed my autographs and drove home by myself and just thought about all types of stuff. Its really selfish to be down after tonight but i wish i was more apart of it then i am now. I love the guys and congratulations on the streak lets keep it going.

Its natural. I was also in your situation when I twisted my back playing football. My 0-3 team won five in a row while I watched on the sidelines. You have the chance to be part of new dynasty. This is the third youngest team in NBA history and they just won ten games in a row.
It might feel better if you take some time off and maybe go camping with your pup.
PS… Tell your trainers to get you some extra thick custom gel-soles if they haven't already. :)

As one sports writer put it very well... You're helping your team by standing back and letting the world see that the rest of these guys can play, too. After the draft all eyes were on you and the olther guys became like wallflowers to the national media. Now your teammates are making the national media pay attention by playing the best basketball Portland has seen in years. Games that were dropped by ESPN and TNT after your surgery are now being picked up again!!!
Just think of it this way... They are warming everybody up for when you make your debut. Every time I think of you (and Rudy Fernandez) joining this already really good Blazers team, I get giddy with excitement. Keep it real and be yourself! You are definitely worth the wait!!!

First, there's always silver linings to bad situations. What's happening to you right now is that you have a year of watching, learning, and falling in love with the city of Portland and the Blazers. This is a city which will adopt you as one of their own, protect and nuture you, and back you 150% in whatever you choose to do.
Second, you ARE helping the team. You are a valuable part of the future of this team and this city. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, knows that you wish you were out there with the rest of the crew.... we do, too! But.. life sometimes has different plans for people, and yours right now is to get that knee and that wrist back to 100% so that next year, and hopefully for years and years afterwards, the league will know the Portland Trailblazers as a team that no one wants to play.
GO BLAZERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys are about to break an NBA record, if you didn't know. You guys are listed as the third youngest team in NBA history. The other two teams ('01 Bulls, '54 Bullets) won 15 and 16 games for the whole season. You guys are about to be the youngest team to ever win 17... and 18, and 19, and 20, and so on. It's incredible that you guys even have a winning record. It's unreal.
This is really something special, and you guys are going to be around for a very... long... time. This whole Blazer Dynasty subject is going to be for real. You're going to be there for the whole thing. Blazermania is just barely getting started. Just wait till it's in full gear. Those older guys like Clyde Drexler and Bill Walton aren't kidding when they say playing in Portland was some of the best years of their lives.
For many of us, we go to work all day, eat, sleep, and watch the Blazers. When I was younger (before the internet) I used to sit in my bedroom listening to them play on the radio (when we couldn't watch most of the games on TV). My friends and I would go down to the court and pick a Blazer to be, decked out in Blazer gear, and "win championships." Hopefully my kids will do the same, play as Oden or Roy or another Blazer, and be as proud of this team as I was back in the day. This team belongs to a new generation of starry eyed children, but we're not going to pass the Blazermania torch on to them like it was passed to us without showing them how it's done. ;)
You've got a long road ahead of you. It's exciting to be here at the beginning. I remember how sad it was when I saw our old team dwindle away. Then all the stuff that followed nearly put all of that to death. This is some real new life. It's like some miraculous dream where the Blazers seem to overcome every obstacle. Losing you for the season was a big obstacle, but in a way I think it's good for the other players to see what they're capable of. They have that "it" quality. No young team that didn't know any better was ever so good. It's like nobody really told you that you couldn't be winners. You just had faith and did it anyway.
You're all going to be the best. I don't think anyone, least of all you, should have to worry about that.

You gave the Blazers momentum. Now everyone sees you over there on the sidlines and people get super excited. I am usually a lone Blazer fan over here in Coeur d Alene, now I get my buddie to come over and watch the games and we talk about next year. My wife even has watched the last two games happily and I have tortured her through some tough recent seasons via league pass. By the way have you seen the youtube video over on http://www.trailblazerblog.blogspot.com/. It is very funny. Long story short the combination of winning and you not even playing yet makes for a great christmas present. Excited for the future. Merry Christmas to all.

now I hate playing the 'what if' game, but we have always had a tandem of paint patrolling big men on D. something in years past, maybe we have taken for granted. This year everyone has to step up to fill the void... not to say that I wouldn't love to watch you out there this season, but take solace that your teammates have had the audacity to take what they've been given and make the best of it, as a part of this team we expect no less of you.

While I don't have any concept of what you are currently going through, I believe that your VERY wrong in assuming that you are not doing something for the team or franchise.
As to your quote "i sometimes think that im not apart of it because im not playing,
People shake my hand and say you guys are doing great but am i really doing something to help the guys."
I have a response that you cannot ignore.
The guys on the floor are not the only members of the Blazers.
There is a sixth man that sits in the stands by the name of the fans.
Without them....no Portland Trail Blazers!
That came closer to happening in the last few years that I want to remember.
Here is what you do for that sixth man.
I know that others will agree in here that there has never been a player like you in regards to being available to his fans in the way you are.
Greg....read the article that you just posted.
I mean really..read it!
You just opened up to your blazer sixth man.. Your sayin I'm down man...hurting!
You won't find Kobe, Shaq, Wade, Durrant, Jordan, Bird, or a Magic humble enough to do that.
That's like an exclusive that not even espn will get to hear.
Dude...you have no idea what you, just being you means to us.
You need to learn to except that whether on the court or off.
Listen....
We have had some of the best players Mr. Allens money could by.
We finally wanted rid of them. Egos, selfish, prideful and rude.
In days past all our guys were in trouble with the law, disrespectful to the coaches, spitting on the fans, setting technical foul records, the list goes on and on and on.
You are a polar opposite.
I promise, you don't know how valuable you are to the fans (the sixth man) even off the court.
ESPECIALLY IN PORTLAND!!!!
Remember: There is a sixth man that sits in the stands by the name of the fans.
Mr. Big O....you have no idea how much you flat rock!
We will gladly wait with you patently for your return to the court.
Say hello to Charles Barkley McLovin for me.
And have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I had alot to say after reading your posting, but now that I have read the comments I have nothing to add. Except that I have been a season ticket holder since the Blazers went all the way to the WCF several years ago. We fans have suffered greatly, but we are proud that we finally have a team that makes us proud and hopeful. And you are an important part of that team. Your presence at the games and in the locker rooms gives a lift to all. You are wise beyond your years. Your humility and mental strength will carry you through much adversity. Keep with your rehab, and come back ready to play next season. No one should make you feel that you are not contributing to the success of your team, even when you are on the bench waiting for your chance. We have had patience to stick with the Blazers through thick and thin, You are a part of the success of our team. Hang in there, Greg, and keep your head up.
I will be at the game on Tuesday, wearing my red ODEN52 jersey. Look for me in the stands. I'll be cheering for the Blazers to run the streak to 11.
Best wishes,
Mark

I grew up in Portland and we had season tickets back in the good ol days when the Trailblazers were winning. I was at game 6 when they finished off Philadelphia to win the title in 77 and that was a great experience. Anyway I just wanted to let you know that you brought me back to the NBA game after a 3 year hiatus. I stopped watching the NBA after that jerk Rasheed Wallace (ex blazer) won a championship with Detroit. I was tired of the thug element changing the landscape of this fine game. Well anyway when I realized the Blazers had the #1 pick this past June I started to follow the progress of that and then they drafted you and I saw and heard what a class act you are and decided I was going to start watching games again. Trust me when I say that you are a breath of fresh air for someone like me that used to be a sports fanatic but lost touch with the pro players in all sports but especially the NBA due to the constant arrogance of the young players coming into the league. You are so humble for your age and I wish more rich guys your age would act like you. Well once I found out you were out for the season I was dissappointed and thought I might not follow the Trailblazers games due to your absense but couldn't stay away because of this teams ability to play unselfish team ball so I ended up getting nba league pass on my dish network and was impressed with the 2 games I've seen so far, Toronto and Denver were amazing gut wrenching victories for this classy group of ballers. In regards to your absence I know your disappointed but I want you to know that I'm cheering for you to have a great recovery and get back to playing the game you love next season. You were drafted by the right team and you deserve to be playing with the classiest group of players in the league. Keep going to the games I know that the fans and the players love having you there.
Take Care,
Rick in Utah

Its normal to think that stuff, but keep your head up, time flys by and before you know it, you'll be back out there. First of all, we here in PDX are all stoked the Blazers took you, and this winning streak is just an early bonus. The fact that the team is learning to win already means when you come back next year you can start out concentrating on D and rebounds, and as great as the team is doing now, that's still exactly what they will need....Of course, you aren't going to feel a part of the team right now, the reality is what it is. But keep the big picture in mind, and you'll see that you are going to be a huge part of a title contender in the future, and remember that you are barely 20(?) and someone like B-Roy didn't even go pro until he was 22-23....Also, I read an article about you a couple months ago that said you were living in Tualatin. Get out of there man, and get a place in the city. PDX is a great, laid back city w/ tons of fun stuff to do and cool people but don't hang out in Tualatin or you will go freakin nuts. Keep your head up

You can make a positive out of a negative here. Take the year to learn -- look at the NFL where the very best often sit out and watch for a year. You'll have plenty of opportunities to contribute in the future. Do your part now by supporting your team and preparing for next year.
Enjoy your Christmas!!!

Don't sweat it though, Portland LOVES you! Everyone I talk to about the Blazers, especially during this winning streak, is like, "Yeah this is great, but how awesome is it gonna be when Oden comes back??" We can't wait! But of course we will wait, because we want you for the long haul and don't want to risk re-injury! Just stay healthy and keep on working to get better, and you'll be out there in no time! Two R.O.Y.'s in 3 years isn't a bad deal....

I grew up in PDX in the 70's, and watched Walton's team win in '77. That's the kind of energy that your team is bringing to town, and it's gotten me watching b-ball for the first time in almost ten years. As much as the current streak has me walking on air, it's nothing compared to how much I'm looking forward to the day *you* take the floor. The setbacks you've endured are perhaps the most challenging that any rookie has had to deal with in the last twenty years; it's frustrating, it's embarrassing, and it certainly isn't fair. But the manner in which you're dealing with this challenge says volumes about your character as a man. *That* character, that courage, that humility... it's those qualities that make the statistics meaningless to me, and make me very proud that you're a part of this team. Take care, and have a great holiday.

Want to echo what everyone else said. The Blazers organization has put together a group of kids this city can be proud of and embrace and love. This goes for when they're involved directly in a winning streak or whether they're rehabbing for the future. You're a Blazer now. Which means that like many past Blazers who call Portland home, you may have to get used to being a Blazer for life. We're all praying for you, hoping you're enjoying the Rose City, the team and getting healthier day by day.
One day your name will be called in the starting lineup. Fans will stand, they will cheer, some might cry. We'll be so happy to have you, you can't even imagine. And we already love this team. So just keep up the good work and remember that because of who you are as a person you're already a fan favorite (just look at this blog). When you're actually playing? It's going to be off the hook then.
Keep your chin up. You're part of this team.
