As for your contest. I think one very exciting player this year will be Oregon's guard, Tajuan Porter. Tajuan Porter did great as a Freshmen with Oregon. At only 5'6" tall, he doesn't have the ability to score low, which means he has to score from outside, which he does VERY well. Tajuan Porter is an excellent three point shooter, which I think makes him a very exciting player. Last year he shattered two prestigious Oregon three point records. Most three's in a game, in a game against Portland st. where Tajuan Porter went 10-12. And most three pointer is a season by an Oregon player and now holds the all-time Pac-10 freshman record for threes in a season with 110.
Now with Oregon's former point guard Aaron Brooks out of town, and into the NBA. Tajuan Porter should see a lot more playing time. With Tajuan Porter excellent three point game, he should definatly shape up as one of the most exciting players in college basketball this year.

-He provides energy off the bench
-He led the nation in points per shot last year and looks to do so again this year
-Ohio State is undefeated in the 15 games he's appeared in to this point
-His presence makes his teammates better. Evidence: Mike Conley and Daequan Cook have not been putting up nearly as big of numbers since losing Titus as a teammate while David Lighty has increased his production.
-He's great with a mic in his face, which is key for any athlete. Evidence: http://youtube.com/watch?v=dan3Xhm4D8I

-He brings the crowd to their feet every time he checks in.
-He is the current career free throw percentage leader in the history of the NCAA.
-He's white, making the previous points that much more impressive.
If you don't think Mark Titus is the most exciting player in not only college basketball, but all of basketball, may God have mercy on your soul.

He's like former 'Nova guard and current Memphis Grizzlies guard Kyle Lowry but Scottie is a better shooter. He can't quite play D like Lowry, nor does he have the handle of another Grizzlies guard, Mike Conley. But he's small, fast, can shoot lights out, and bring a team back from down 10 in a hurry.
That's exciting.

think that Malik Hairston of the UO Ducks will have a breakout season. He will fill Aaron Brooks' role as leader of a very impressive Oregon team. Hairston is crazy athletic and has the skillset and mindset to get it done night after night. Probably wont be the most popular choice, but I think he will suprise some people. If you are still bored in Portland, check out Malibu Grand Prix in Wilsonville. Just dont get hurt!!!

3) There's a couple pretty decent freshman that entered the NBA draft last year. Everyone's looking for the next phenoms, so it's got to be another frosh. Love isn't necessarily exciting, Mayo's going to have a tough time living up to expectations, and Rose is going to hit a wall. Beasley, on the other hand, is Beastly. Yeah. Michael Beastly, or something like that.
2) He had something like 625 points and 87 rebounds in the opener. Can't argue with that.

This is a tough question. Obviously the college basketball world is going to be rather deflated without your presence. I mean, they've lost a handsome, talented, and funny individual and WHO can really pick up that slack?
So, my initial response is no one. I thought about it some more, and then agreed with myself. Doesn't always happen, but definitely did in this case. When I'm right I'm right, and I'm right.
So, maybe the better question is, "who will be the person that doesn't bore us to tears with their play and attitude that can not be compared to the man from the year before?"
Frankly, I don't know. I don't own a TV and so I'd only be regurgitating what I've heard others say. Without watching, I can't see it, if I can't see it I can't judge.
This question is much like one of those exams where you don't necessarily know the answer, but if you ramble long enough you might figure out/create the formula or happen upon the answer and then erase the previous five minutes of writing.
Except that's not happening in this case because I didn't know the answer to begin with.
I don't really care about winning the game, but winning the game from you would be cool and so I've made what little attempt I can.
Still I had fun rambling and it's an excuse to say hi.
If you ever get bored again, just ask one of the random people you talk to about what THEY do for fun. There's a huge variety and a lot of hidden events that take place. If you like strange events there's plunderathon (bar hopping dressed as pirates) Zombie walk (halloween zombies that... well... walk around eating brains and drinking), Santa Con (who couldn't love 300 santas going around and... well... drinking). There's also the naked bike ride. That is EXACTLY like what it sounds.
Okay, probably not events for you and I'm sure it would create a PR nightmare for the blazers, but amusing portland events none the less. It's a sample of the weird quirky events you can find if you look for them. There's also Saturday market (if it's still open), and the list can go on.
My point is to talk to the man (and woman) on the street.
I've rambled long enough and it's time to get ready for work.
Keep up the good work Greg.

Or if you insist on an actual current player, it's gotta be Tyler H. at North Carolina. The man's a freak of nature, and he works ridiculously hard. Plus, he's not exactly surrounded by slouches, so we're going to be seeing him throw down some dominance roughly every three seconds. He's got the crazy-red hair, too, which makes him somehow more intense, as if he needed the help.

Since you're looking for the adjective 'exciting' my mind immediately goes to the small, fast, and streaky kind of players in the NCAA.
This is a difficult choice because out east we have Derrick Rose at Memphis who'll rain 3's on the comp this year... Ty Lawson playing for the pre-season #1 may be the faster player in the country... and Drew Lavender from Xavier who'll (mark my words) have some 'SportCenter' games.
Out West I'm liking OJ Mayo (what a creator), and Tajuan Porter of Oregon is only 5'6" but i've seen him take over games offensively last year as a freshman.
But here's my pick - he's 100% heart a pure will. His ability to carry his team offensively and the anticipation he'll bring into March to lead his team to a championship will be unmatched: And this is why CHRIS LOFTON of Tennessee will be this year's most Exciting Player in College Hoops.

For a one BIG reason! I am from Indiana (fort wayne). It's not often that IU gets much attention and thats exactly what Gordon did, he changed IU basketball already. This kid is amaxing and unhuman like. In his first college game alone he racked up 33 points, and SEVEN 3-pointers! He destroyed George McGinnis record, which was in 1970!

- KILLER INSTINCT and INTENSITY (On BOTH ends of the court). Those two adjectives describe EJ best. I can honestly say I that I think he'd go up against ANYONE. He shines brightest when the lights are on and the game is on the line!
- There is no player... NO PLAYER... in college basketball with the combination of confidence, basketball IQ, ball handling, shooting, athleticism, speed, quickness, body control, and strength that EJ has. He has no noticeable weakness!
- Play him too close, he's aggressively EXPLODING past you. Give him too much room, he's lighting you up with a jump-shot release so quick and beautiful that you're dazed and amazed. He's AMAZING in the open court! What can you do? Foul him and he's automatic from the line. Double team him and his teammates will have a clinic because he'll find the open man.
- Everything he does just looks exciting! He's one of those players who you'll pay to go see. The best thing is he's not arrogant or cocky. He's a humble kid who doesn't really say much!
Eric Gordon... 2007-2008... NCAA's Most Exciting Player Award. End the discussion.

As you mention Eric Gordon from Indiana, he's solid and may take the Hoosiers far in the tournment. Others includes: OJ Mayo from USC, Kevin Love from UCLA, Michael Beasley from K-State. But I like the point guard from Memphis: Derek Rose. This sick cat from Chi-town can flat out play b-ball. Not yet in Allen Iverson level yet, but his instinct and ability to make plays in the clutch will make March Madness fun to watch! #23 gets my vote... The most exciting player in college hoops? I find this a simple answer. As the biased Ohio State fan that I am, I'm gonna go with David Lighty. He may not put up the greatest stats, but having a Lighty on your team is one of the best things. He's like the Malcolm Jenkins of basketball, whoever he is put on to cover, they definitely aren't going to do anything. Most people right now are thinking "Wow, this guy is a moron," but in my opinion Oden was the most exciting player to watch last year. He didn't put up 30 points a game, but whoever was driving the lane on him, well, we know what was going to happen to that person. So David Lighty will be the most exciting player in college basketball to watch and will own everyone. Go Buckeyes!
Good luck with rehab Greg1

• His coach, Ben Howland, has guessed he could run the 40-yard dash in 4.1 seconds. In comparison, Reggie Bush, one of the most explosive college football players, ran a "slow" 4.25.
• Collison is widely considered to be one of the top guards in the NCAA.
• His parents Dennis and June (Griffith) were both elite track and field athletes for Guyana (good genes).
• Last season, he averaged 2.2 steals per game â€" the most in the Pacific 10 Conference.
• He also averaged 5.7 assists (2nd in the Pac 10), as well as a three-point shooting percentage of 44.7 percent.
• Some mock drafts had him being drafted in the top ten last year but he chose to come back.
• Collison injured his MCL on his left knee in the season opener exibition game against Azuza Pacific University. He is expected to be out from 4 days to 2 weeks at the most, but when he gets back, he will get back on his throne as college hoops most exciting player.
• Now give me the damn game, please.

Going with Kevin Love would be bandwagoning.
Going with Kosta Koufos would be trying to butter you up.
Going with P.J. Hill would be completely biased just 'cause he's my favorite player. (Whom I've rechristened "Spider.")
So, I'm going to go with Donte Green from Syracuse. Seems everyone's going with the newcomer's, huh? Right now he's getting a little overshadowed by Jonny Flynn, but he's working his way up. Reminds me almost of you and Mike. Your skills were so through the roof, it took some time for him to gain attention but since the moment he got it he hasn't lost it. I think the same thing will happen with Green. He understands what it takes to win and is a unique human being. Once he cleans up his turnovers and rebounds, he'll be unstoppable!!

Although my instincts say Michael Beasley I'm a homer. I'm a Blazer fan because I grew up in LA and I hate Faker fans. I'm a Razorback fan because I was a chubby kid and Oliver Miller was a heck of a chubby basketball player.
So I have to pick a Razorback and my pick is Sony Weems
5 reasons why Sony will be the most exiting player
1. The man had a 99 dunk rating in CH 2k7!! Every now and then he will do a dunk you have never seen before.
2. He's clutch!! In CH 2k7 he had the highest clutch rating as a team. In my second season in the game the game which would be my first season in CH 2k8 his clutch rating improved to the low 90s.
3. Defense!! A lot of these freshmen haven't been around long enough to excel on the other end of the floor. Weems has faced guys like Cory Brewer and Nick Young. He's also the point man for their 1-3-2 zone.
4. The rest of the team!! Patrick Beverly was SEC freshman of the year. His stroke is so smooth he made a mascot pass out from heat stroke. Michael Washington, and Dorian Townes can do it in the paint. Weems is the perfect swing/slahser in that mix.
5. 6th man advantage. That's a new feature that gets the fans involved. Look what he does to the fans.

I also love the choice of Roy Hibbert. My favorite players have always been the big men, from Hakeem Olajuwan to Yao Ming to yourself, I just love watching top notch post play and defensive presence in the low post.
But for my choice, I am going to say Drew Neitzel of MSU. I think he will have at least one game where he hits 4-5 3 pointers in the last 2 minutes of the game to seal a come from behind victory. The dude can flat out shoot the rock!
Thanks for the contest. Fun stuff. And hope the rehab is going well.

Of course he is a good player with alot of skill, everyone knows that. But in my eyes he is the underdog this year. We are used to seeing OJ with a winning team playing his best. But I feel that we are gonna see either the "crack under pressure" losing side of OJ or the "my team is losing I need to step up more" winning side of OJ, becuase if he can score 32 points in an bad lose against Mercer and he didnt play his best then how will he be when his team is down by 4 and the media starts to question him (you know they will)? How good can he play when is team ISNT winning on a bigger stage? I think we''l see a fire in OJ we never seen before in any athlete. Its more interesting to watch a great player playing like he has everything on the line, then to watch a player play like he doesn't, true athelete plays better during adversity and when others start to question them.

I love that you picked Eric Gordon! We HOOSIERS are super excited about him. I was an OSU fan when you were there, but I had to go back to my IU roots! :) Gordon is just what we needed! You should come out to a game and support! :)

Best of luck with the rehabilitation. Hope to see you around Indy this summer as I'll pick up the tab for the next outing at Cheeseburger in Paradise.

I think the most exciting player in college sports this year is going to be Tyler Hansbrough. Even though he's not going to dribble the basketball coast-to-coast, he is the hardest-working college basketball player and has the most guts of anyone. Points aside, he has basketball carisma that fans love to watch. One example of this is when he took off his nose protective mask because it was bothering his vision and feel for the game, despite becoming vulnerable to injury, he took that risk. He's hard-nosed and will put it all out on the line. There's nothing better than watching a basketball player, regardless of level, who has basketball tunnel-vision and is willing to play with the highest intesity and passion. In that regard, Tyler Hansbrough is going to be the most exciting college basketball player this year. By the way, their team happens to be number one.

It's not often that a team with a first-year head coach makes its way into the preseason Top 25 and be predicted to finish second in the Big 12. But Kansas State did, and a lot of that can be credited to Beasley's hype. He's at a relatively unknown basketball program and has the ability to spark a revival of it, much like Todd Reesing has done for Kansas in football this year.
And looking at his performances so far, he hasn't let anyone down. He set the Big 12 record for rebounds (24) in his first game and hasn't slowed down any. Just last night he had 28 points and 22 rebounds. He's also got the rust out in his first three games. In game one he had eight turnovers. He's only had three total in the last two games.
And, as much as it hurts me to say, he going to give the Jayhawks a run for his money.
Beasley through three games: 30 ppg, 20 rpg, 3 apg

1. He is a Perth boy (Western Australia)
2. I trained against him a year ago, being the 6'7 center I am, I was shocked to realize I was posting up 7'2 Luke and not his 6'7 twin brother.... My turn around, fade away was quickly swatted into the stands.
3. I had never been dunked on before, he got me 4 times in this one training session.
4. He is a shot to make the NBA in a year or two's time.
5. He seems like a down to earth nice guy, that can bang with the best in the Australian side.
Thats about it :)
Cheers
JB

We all know its definitely Eric Gordon of Indiana. I went to Indiana and he has made so much hype down there in Bloomington. Too bad we couldn't have gotten you and Mike to transfer down there. That would be the scariest team know to man.

I've gotta go with Kevin Love out of UCLA. A new big man to talk about this year since your now in the NBA. I'm from Portland and watched Kevin grow up playing for Lake Oswego. I think he will be an awesome force to be dealt with this year. I just wish he was playing at UO in Eugene but still will enjoy watching him anyway.

Beasley will be player of the year; and he'll be the talk of the town in the NBA next year. With a solid frame, he's a good 3 in the NBA; and he will solidify the Blazers if they get a shot at him. I'd compare him to Kevin Durant; with more bulk.
