I.D.

So this past week i turned 21, its been a really fun week. I really dont feel any different, everybody ask me if i feel older and i give them the same answer heck no i feel like a day went by. On my birthday when i was paying the bill for my dinner and drinks i gave the lady my credit card and i.d. and she said she didnt need it. So the next day i went to a resteraunt and sat in the bar and they carded all my friends except me, even when i went to a club they didnt card me at all. Its just seems different to me cause i feel like one of the best things about being 21 is when the people who works at a place dont think your 21 you get to whip out your i.d. and shove it back in there face. Ill never get that chance cause everybody already thinks im 50. Im still waiting on that day for someone not to recognize me and card me so i can be like "nope player im of age."

I'm guessin the reason no one carded you is because everyone knew it was your birthday. I mean it wasn't really a secret :) Don't worry though, on an away game you'll go into some quiet quaint little restaurant and order a drink with your meal and they'll be like "I'm sorry sir but can I see your ID." Then you'll whip it out and be like POW! Then they'll be like, "Oh snap you're Greg Oden. Get out of our restaurant Blazer!" HAHAHA, just kiddin big man. Good game against the Wiz, I just wish they'd get you a couple more touches when you seem just overpowering to the other team. Whatever we won. Keep up the good work, and don't worry you'll get carded soon enough :)

  Hi Greg! Good to see ya back on here,and this is Kathy--the Louisville fan who lives in a Wildcat State. lol So they didn't card you, huh? Well, that's good in one way I guess. (they don't card me either-but I thik its the age factor here also). btw, I wish they had not only carded Trent Guy--one of our Louisville football players, back in July, 2008 since he went in a club and and was shot at 19 times when he was leaving. (he was hit in the back), but lived to tell it. Had tey of carded Trent, he'd never have gotten in since he was only 20. So how is your family? I got to meet them once, and they are good people--kinda like you are. I enjoy watching you in the pros, but still have my Ohio State shirt--which I have to get you to autograph one of these days. Haha... Thats so sad... I am not 21 yet, as I have 3 more yrs to go, but I know that Ill be waiting for the excitement of being able to salt someone whos trying to tell me Im not 21.. haha.. esp since im 18 and everyone thinks im 12. But I guess either they just knew who you were, or like you said, they thought you were older. I guess for some people, they would be happy to not be carded, but Im sure I would feel insulted, just like you to not be asked for my card. It seems like a great experience to FINALLY be able to whip out that card and shove it in their face and watch their expression as they read your DOB.

don't sweat it greg! Same thing happened to me! My friends and I went to Vegas after my 21st, and i was the only one among the 5 of us that didn't get carded(and they were all over 25 too)...sometimes it sucks to look old, but just remember, you are only as old as you feel!

and you might not get the same treatment from out of town I.D. checkers once you start blowing up all these other teams.
and i 2nd whoever suggested the terminator stout. also try anything by deschutes brewery (made in my hometown), super good beer.

Hey Greg, I also had the same problem after I turned 21. It seemed that I looked older due to the beard on my face. 3/4 places I went to the first month didn't card me because of the beard. If you shaved the beard and dressed like you were younger...you'd be getting carded all over the place. I know you would feel fulfilled to be carded, but being a celebrity also has its minuses. If you went out to some of the Oregon backcountry, they wouldn't trust your age out there...and they wouldn't know who you were either (less likely atleast, they don't have the CSN games in the whole state). Also, people in Oregon City don't trust outsiders, try your luck there.

Happy B-Day Greg! I third the suggestion on McMenamins and second the Deschutes. You should also check out the Lucky Lab and the Roots breweries if you want to try some good brews. Lucky for you that you live in the microbrew capital of the US!

Yeah Greg - a little inside hint. No bartender in his right mind is going to card you: a) you are famous; b) you are 7 feet tall, 285 lbs.
The recs for a Terminator at McMenamins are good ones. Portland has a lot of really great beer. Enjoy it all responsibly.

Happy Belated Bday man.
I know you wouldn't remember me personally, but I met you at Travis' viewing as we sat in the refreshment area just talking about all the good times we had with him. I still vivdly remember your story when you were told the news. As you know tomorrow will be two years.
Go out and have a great game tonight in the memory of Travis Smith 1-27-07. One of the last conversations I had with him was that very Sat. afternoon as we were hitting golf balls. It was about him going out and living with you after you got drafted. I wish we could have met under different circumstances, but he's in a better place watching you fullfill your dream.

Greg, nice game tonight. I do think we can still dominate on the boards even more though. With you, Pryz-bidness, LMA, and trout we should be burying teams 70-30 on the glass. I know it will come, and us fans have faith and patience in you. Soon enough we will be shutting the whole league down.
Don't go to McMenamins, that's for tourists, the beer is flat, and the food sucks, only thing that's nice about it is the decor. I know your a man of class, I suggest places that aren't stuck in 1986 like the Doug Fir or Ron Tom's. Keep up the good work.

LOL--first of all, they aren't carding you because they know who you are and they are just so happy to be serving you. Secondly, happy happy birthday to you!
